James (Jim) Edmund Hughes, beloved Husband, Father, Grandfather and Friend. He began his journey to be with Christ, family members, loved ones and friends on Oct. 12, 2019.

Jim was born May 2, 1947 in El Paso, Texas and was married to his high school sweetheart, Melba, for 53 years. They have daughters: Tammy Hughes (Jeff Miller), of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and Sherry Beardshear (Chris), of Denver, Colorado; as well as grandsons: Mason Miller, and Jack and Sam Beardshear. Jim is also survived by his brother, Reggie Hughes; sister, Peggie Yager (Ken); cousins: Nancy Haupt, Bob Syner, William Syner; and loving nieces and nephews.

Jim served aboard the USS Uhlmann DD 687 during the Vietnam War. He was a craftsman for 11 years and Manager for 22 years for Southwestern Bell Telephone. After retirement, he became an award-winning Wood Carver and RV traveler.

Burial service was held at Ft. Bliss National Cemetery, El Paso, Texas, on Oct. 21, with Military Honors.
