Philip Lee Goldston passed away at 3:37 a.m. on October 24, 2019 at home in Truth or Consequences, NM. He was 82 years old. Philip was born in 1937 in Washington D.C. where his father was a policeman in the White House.
He went to school early there and always remembered a visit to the White House to attend a Christmas party for the children, where he received candy, a toy, and a war bond from President Roosevelt. His dad took him to baseball games there and his mother took him to see Ella Fitzgerald, who he remembered sang him a song. He and his family then returned to their roots near Durham, North Carolina, where he grew up playing on his grandmother’s farm.
Though he would become a polished entrepreneur, businessman, Hair Stylist, Salon Owner and artist, he never lost his love of the country life. Philip was always an adventurer, designer and creator; full of life, energy and sunshine… unafraid/a believer. He lived and worked in many places… the Caribbean, Hawaii, Florida, North Carolina and Santa Fe, to name a few.
When he discovered New Mexico, he spent all of his later years here. He was given so many gifts and tried to use them all… a singer, poet, artist, harmonica player, jeweler, trader. He loved history, beauty, truth, his family and friends, his dogs and cats, and Jesus.
Philip leaves friends who’ve known him for a short time (many here in T-or-C) and long-time dear friends who will always miss him. He is survived by his wife and soulmate of 51 years, Lola Goldston, and her family; his brother, John Goldston; and family and cousins, nieces and nephews.
Cremation has taken place and a Remembrance Celebration will be planned. Go in peace… until we meet again!
Thank you to all the people of Sierra Vista Hospital and the Emergency Department, Sierra Home Health and Hospice, Lincare, and friends near and far who walked with us through this long journey… and to Karen Fiato, CNP who made it possible, making home visits, responding to many late after hours calls and working tirelessly to give Philip those two more years that turned into four. May God bless you all!
