The Sierra County Sentinel The Sierra County Sentinel published it's first issue on March 2, 1967. When first established the Sentinel printed 1,000 copies each week, and now circulates 5,000 copies weekly. In the beginning, the publication was hand-justified and typed on every day typewriters. Today, the Sentinel has moved into the 21st century in numerous ways. Everything from a single ad to an entire page is designed and generated on high speed computers. Now the paper is published using the latest in imaging technology and the finest products available in the printing business. The Sierra County Sentinel has always been a leading edge publication, being one of the first weekly publications in New Mexico to add full color in January, 2001. In March 2007, Sentinel management made the decision to join with the growth of the community and move its publication date from Wednesdays to Fridays. The change allows readers to find out sooner what's happened in the area, rather than wait until the following week. The Sentinel has always been a family operation since the beginning. Along with the county's only locally owned and operated radio station, the dual media is owned and operated by GPK Media, LLC, with Patrick Kohs, president; Myrna Kohs, general manager and Frances Sanchez, board member. Since it's beginning, the Sierra County Sentinel has strived to give its readers unbiased news coverage, on the scene reporting whenever possible, and is dedicated to the basic principals of truth and fairness. |
